Three evenings, three places: the porch, the archway and the open lawn.
Three point seven feet from the crown of its head down to the swing board — about the height of a six-year-old, hanging in the air. Rope and all it drops about seven and a half feet from wherever you tie it, and the board is 14.1 inches wide. Thirty-four inches of spare hemp rope let you take that drop up or down to suit the branch you have.
Anywhere you can get a rope over: a tree limb, a porch beam, the top of an entry arch, a pergola, a sturdy plant hook. It wants clear air underneath, because the whole point is that it turns. A spot where a breeze crosses is worth more than a spot people walk past.
It is fabric, rope and a thin pine board, so it is light — but the maker does not publish a weight, and we will not quote one we cannot source. Use a living limb you cannot easily bend by hand and you are well inside anything this can ask of it.
A porch beam is the better spot anyway. Hanging under a roof keeps the ghost lit against a dark ceiling instead of against the sky, which is what makes it read from the street, and it is out of the worst of the weather.
The battery box is sealed and made for outdoor use, and the fabric and rope are outdoor materials. What the maker does not publish is a weather rating for the whole piece, so we do not claim one. Treat it the way you would treat a paper lantern you like: fine in weather, better under an eave.
Fifteen LEDs sit inside the fabric, so the ghost glows as one shape instead of showing a string of dots. The remote gives you eight lighting modes and four brightness levels, and a timer that runs it six hours on and eighteen off, every day, without you touching it again.
Almost nothing. The head, the fabric and the light string come pre-installed, and the swing board and ropes arrive fully assembled. You stick on the two eyes, put batteries in the box and hang it. The maker does not state which batteries it takes, so keep the box handy until you have opened it.
It stays assembled. Fold the fabric down over the board, coil the ropes, and it goes back in the bin as one piece — which is the whole reason a pre-assembled prop is worth more on November 1st than it looked on October 1st.

I hung it off the maple out front and forgot about it until my husband called me outside. It was moving. Not spinning like a windsock, just turning slowly, and every time it came around the light hit the porch differently. Photos do not tell you that part.
Started with one by the door. Looked good, looked lonely. Ordered the three pack and put them at different heights across the front of the house and now people slow down. Same light on all three is what sells it — it reads as one display instead of three ornaments.
I have bought decorations that needed a diagram and a second person. This one came already put together. I stuck the eyes on, dropped in the batteries and threw the rope over the porch beam. Ten minutes, and most of that was me deciding on the height.
No complaints about the thing itself — the glow through the fabric is warmer and softer than the LED junk I have bought before. My one gripe is that nothing on the listing or the box told me what batteries the pack takes, so I opened it and then had to go back out to the store. Knock off a star for that, not for the ghost.
Our block is all strollers and I did not want anything with a face. Two black eyes and nothing else turned out to be exactly right. The three-year-olds point at it and laugh instead of hiding behind a leg. It is spooky the way a sheet is spooky.
Set it the first evening and it has come on by itself every night since. I am not home at dusk most days and I was tired of decorations that only worked when someone remembered to flip them on. Six hours and it shuts itself off.
We got two solid nights of rain the first week. The battery box is properly sealed and it kept working, though I did hang it back under the porch roof afterwards because that is where it looks best anyway — lit against a dark ceiling instead of against the sky.
I read three point seven feet and pictured something you set on a table. It is the size of a small kid, hanging in the air. That is much better than what I expected, but measure your branch height first — I had to re-tie mine higher so the board cleared the walkway.
