Fabric cutouts, no glue, nothing to plug in

Three ghosts in the glass, one of them reaching for the door

Three flat black ghost silhouettes cut from polyester fabric, each with two hollow eyes and an open mouth, and none of them the same shape. Behind a window they read from the sidewalk as somebody standing in a dark room, which is all a window has to do. Sidelights by the front door, the storm door glass, the bedroom window that faces the street.

Three poses, not one shape three times

The short one is the classic sheet ghost. The wide one leans in with a hem that spreads across the sill. The third has an arm out and fingers hanging, and that is the one people point at from the street. Put them in different windows so the house does not look like it bought a matching set.

Nothing to plug in

No cord, no batteries, no sensor to argue with. Static means they are in the window at four in the afternoon and still there at midnight, which is more than you can say for half the motion props on this block.

Slightly scary, on purpose

Hollow eyes and an open mouth, nothing dripping, nothing with teeth. The four-year-olds point, the teenagers still look twice, and everybody makes it up the steps. That is the right pitch for the front of the house.

Indoor

From the sidewalk, Halloween night

Porch light on, a lamp on somewhere behind the glass, and three black shapes sit in the window while the kids decide whether to come up the walk. They come up. On November first they peel off with nothing left on the pane, fold flat, and go in the bin. Polyester does not mind the garage, and they come out the same shape next October.

  • Three ghost shapes cut from polyester, none of them alike
  • Comes off the pane with nothing left behind
  • Folds flat and comes out the same shape next October
Are the three ghosts the same shape?

No. The short one is the classic sheet ghost, the wide one leans in with a hem that spreads across the sill, and the third has an arm out with fingers hanging.

What are they made of?

Flat black polyester fabric, each cut with two hollow eyes and an open mouth.

Where do they go?

On the inside of window glass: sidelights by the front door, the storm door pane, the bedroom window facing the street. Split them across different windows so the house does not look like it bought a matching set.

Do they need power?

No cord, no batteries and no sensor to argue with. They are in the window at four in the afternoon and still there at midnight.

Will they damage the window?

They peel off the pane with nothing left behind, so a rental window or a painted sash is no problem.

Do they last to next Halloween?

They fold flat and go in the bin. Polyester does not mind the garage, and they come out the same shape next October.
