It's all in the print. The design is engineered so your eye reads depth — a skeleton rising through a striped hole in the floor — on a completely flat, quilted surface. No physical 3D, no trick floor, just a very convincing picture.

Does it light up, move, or make sound?

No. Boneshade is a static printed rug — no motion, no light, no sound, no batteries. The 'moving' part happens in your guests' heads, not the mat.

What sizes are available, and is the design different per size?

Same Boneshade design across 7 diameters — 16in, 20in, 24in, 32in, 40in, 47in, and 55in — sold in packs of 2, 4, or 8. You're picking a quantity of this one design, not swapping the artwork.

How do I clean it?

Vacuum it like any rug. For spills or scuffs, spot-clean with a mild detergent and a damp cloth. It's not machine washable, so skip the laundry.

Will it slide around on my floor?

The underside is a non-slip dot plastic backing, so it stays put on hardwood, tile, and most indoor flooring without tape or a rug pad.

Can I put this outside, like on a porch or patio?

It's built for indoor use. We haven't tested it against weather, so keep the abyss inside where it belongs.

Stops people in their tracks

We got the 4-pack in the 32 inch size and put two right inside our front entryway, then gave the other two to my neighbor since she loved the look for her own hallway. The skeleton rising up with its arms open looks like it's actually popping out of the checkerboard the first time you see it — my husband thought I'd bought something with lights built in. At least a dozen trick-or-treaters stopped just inside the door to take a picture standing on it, and after three weekends of foot traffic the edges are still flat with zero curling.

Better than the store-bought mats

Bought the 8-unit pack at 24 inches and lined them up like stepping stones down our front hallway leading up to the door. Ordered the 2-pack, one for our front door and one for my sister since she loved the picture I sent her. The only issue was the very edge on mine curled up slightly during the first humid week, but after a few days of foot traffic and a night flat under a bookshelf leg it settled down and hasn't moved since. Smaller than I pictured, but found the right spot

I ordered the 20 inch size expecting it to fill more of my hallway, and honestly it read bigger in the listing photos than it does in person, so I was disappointed at first. Instead of returning it I moved it to our half bath by the sink, and it actually works better there — the orange, green, and purple checkerboard suits the small space more than a big hallway runner would have anyway. I've already ordered the 47 inch for the living room now that I know the scale in person, just wish I'd sized up the first time.

Perfect for the garage photo booth

We turned our garage into a photo corner for the kids' Halloween party and needed something on the painted concrete that wouldn't slide with twenty costumed kids running around. Spooky but still office-appropriate

I keep the 16 inch one right outside my cubicle since our office does a low-key Halloween thing every year. It's spooky enough that coworkers notice and comment on the skeleton popping up out of the board, but it's not gory or over the top, so it hasn't gotten any complaints from HR. It's held up fine to rolling office chairs bumping the edge and wipes clean easily when someone tracks in coffee.

Learned to spot-clean, works great

Bought this for our entryway, and within the first week one of my kids ran through the yard and back inside with muddy shoes right onto it — since it's not machine washable I figured it was ruined. Turned out a damp cloth with a little mild detergent lifted the mud right out without flattening the quilted texture or leaving a mark. Once I got past that first scare the rug's held up great, and the skeleton reaching up out of the striped floor gets a comment from pretty much everyone who comes to the door.
