Wait, is there actually a hole in my floor?

No — it's a rug. Dark gray hands and claws are printed climbing out of a flat, monochrome pit. Your eyes do the rest; the surface underfoot stays flat, quilted fabric.

What sizes does it come in?

Seven: 16in/40cm, 20in/50cm, 24in/60cm, 32in/80cm, 40in/100cm, 47in/120cm and 55in/140cm — all 0.19in / 0.5cm thick.

How do I clean it?

Vacuum it regularly like any rug. For a spot or spill, a damp cloth with a mild, neutral detergent handles it. It's not machine washable, so keep it out of the laundry.

Will it slide around on my floor?

No. The underside is a solid plastic backing with non-slip rubber dots, and the edge is locked so it won't fray or curl at the corners over time.

Can I put it outside, like on a porch?

It's built with a quilted fabric top and a plastic, non-slip backing — the kind of construction made for floors indoors, not weather. Keep the abyss inside: entryway, hallway, living room, wherever people walk without looking down.

How long does shipping take?

Standard delivery is 5-7 business days from our US supplier. Need it before the party — express ships in 3-4 business days.

Can I mix different designs in the same order?

Each design in our illusion rug collection, this one included, is its own listing. Add as many different rugs to your cart as you want — this listing itself is only the Grimclutch design, in whichever pack size you pick.

Is the 3D effect real, or is it just the print?

Just the print. There's no raised texture and no actual depth — it's a flat, quilted rug with the illusion baked into the design. That's the entire trick.

Stopped every trick-or-treater in their tracks

We got the 4-pack and lined our front porch steps with it. Every single kid stopped dead before stepping on it — a couple wouldn't even walk over the hands. My husband thought I was exaggerating about how creepy it looks in person until he saw it under the porch light himself. It's held up fine through two weekends of heavy foot traffic already.

Grimmest one we own, worth it

I already had a couple other rugs from Veilmoor's illusion collection but this one is by far the darkest — no color at all, just gray claws crawling out of a pit. Got the 8-pack and used it to cover our whole entryway and hallway for our Halloween party. Guests kept stopping to ask if it was actually raised before someone finally touched it and realized it's flat.

Small smell out of the box, otherwise perfect

Ordered the 4-pack for the stairs leading up to our attic display and the print itself is genuinely unsettling in the best way. My only complaint is there was a faint plastic smell when I first unrolled them, but it was completely gone after leaving them flat overnight. No fraying on the edges even after my dog walks across them every day.

Great design, just know it's a printed image

I'll admit I assumed "3D optical illusion" meant the hands would actually be raised or textured, so I was a little let down to feel it's a flat printed surface like a normal rug. That said, the illusion from a few feet away is honestly one of the best I've seen — my sister jumped back the first time she saw it by our basement door. Bought the 2-pack for now but I'm already eyeing another design from the collection for the kids' bathroom.

Perfect for the kids' bathroom

Got the 2-pack and put one in each kid's bathroom for the whole month of October. The rubber dots on the back keep it totally in place on our tile floor even with wet feet running around. My youngest actually asked me to move his to his bedroom doorway instead because he likes being spooked by it every morning.

Coworkers noticed on video calls

I work from home and put the 40in size right behind my desk chair as a backdrop for Zoom calls all month. Half my team has asked about it, and one coworker admitted the hands genuinely creeped her out through the screen. The quilted surface feels sturdy too, not like the flimsy stuff from seasonal pop-up stores.

Shipping took the full week, rug was worth the wait

Went with standard shipping and it landed right at 7 business days, which had me checking the tracking a little impatiently before our Halloween prep. Once it arrived though, the quality made up for it completely — the edges are locked tight and haven't curled at all after two weeks down in our front hall. Already ordered a second pack for my sister's house.

Learned the hard way it's not machine washable

Someone spilled apple cider on ours during a party and my first instinct was to just toss it in the wash, which the listing thankfully warns against — wish I'd read that part more carefully beforehand. Ended up hand-cleaning it with a damp cloth and mild detergent like the care instructions say, and it came out looking basically new with zero staining. It's a bit more upkeep than I expected between that and the regular vacuuming, but the design is easily the creepiest rug we've bought from Veilmoor so it's still worth it.
