The lights read from down the block

We are on a corner lot and neighbors two streets over have mentioned seeing it lit up at night. The color-changing LEDs on the head carry a lot farther than I expected for something battery-free.

Packs down smaller than I expected

The tray she folds back into is not much bigger than a suitcase. Whole thing lives on a garage shelf now instead of a giant box.

The unsexy essential

Nobody sees it. Everything stands because of it. The drive handle alone is worth it in packed soil.

Great light, wish it said which batteries

No complaints about the thing itself — the glow through the fabric is warmer and softer than the LED junk I have bought before. My one gripe is that nothing on the listing or the box told me what batteries the pack takes, so I opened it and then had to go back out to the store. Knock off a star for that, not for the ghost.

Great presence, tame motor

The movement is subtler than the video made it look — more sway than lunge. In the dark with an uplight it works.

Louder than expected

Volume has one setting: committed. Faces the street now instead of the door and it's perfect.

Up in under ten minutes

Unzipped it, staked the base, plugged in the adapter, and it was standing before I'd finished setting up the rest of the yard.

Simple to run, which I actually wanted

No app, no sensor, no phone required — I know some people want that, but I just wanted to flip it on and set the timer. Does exactly that and nothing more.

Smaller than I pictured

Thirty-five inches is about waist height on me, so it is a doorway or a corner piece, not a lawn piece. That is my fault for not measuring. For what it is, it looks great and the straw is fuller than the photos suggest.

Turn the dial down first

There is a volume control on it and I wish I had found it before the first night, not after. Set it low, walk to the sidewalk, then decide. Ours sits about a third up and carries fine.

The cloth strips make it

Didn't expect to spend twenty minutes just arranging the wraps, but that's the fun part — every strip you leave loose moves in the wind for free. No two nights look the same.

One person really can set this up

I was ready to wait for my husband to get home. Had it standing and plugged in by myself in about twenty minutes. Only ding: the instructions for posing the head could use a diagram.

The shadows on the garage door surprised me

Didn't expect the cutouts to actually throw shapes on anything, I bought it for the cascade of lights. Planted one near the garage and the bat and moon shapes show up on the door once it's dark out.

Snapped together in about ten minutes

No tools, no instructions manual needed really, the pieces only fit one way. Took longer to dig the little trench for the base than to assemble the thing itself.

Cauldron scene made easy

Paired her with a fog machine low in the cauldron. One piece did the work of a whole scene.

The stakes are the difference

Came with real stakes instead of the wire pins everything else ships with. My husband laughed at how overbuilt they are. That's the point.

Build took us twenty-five minutes

Two of us, no tools. The only fiddly part is holding the body steady while the leg poles seat into the base. Everything else clicked and the wiring was already run through it.

Small kids on our street, and it works

Our block is all strollers and I did not want anything with a face. Two black eyes and nothing else turned out to be exactly right. The three-year-olds point at it and laugh instead of hiding behind a leg. It is spooky the way a sheet is spooky.

Bought it for the walk-up

The sound catches people right as they step onto the grass. The kids on our block came back a second time just to set it off again.

Thinner than I pictured, but the print won me over

I'll be honest, when I opened the 47 inch I was a little let down that it's only about a fifth of an inch thick, I was picturing something plusher for an entryway piece. Once I stopped comparing it to a regular area rug and just looked at it as a seasonal accent, the mummy hand print really does look great on the hardwood and the olive and orange colors are richer in person than online. Still keeping it out through November and I'm already eyeing one of the other designs for my office door.

Perfect entryway pair

Got the 2-pack for either side of our front door, just inside the entryway, and the purple and orange accents against the black and olive checkerboard look great under our hallway light at night. It's been down for a few weeks now and the edges haven't frayed or curled at all. Already looking at another design from their illusion rug collection for next year.

Beautiful design, just know it doesn't light up

I ordered the 2-pack to test it before committing to a bigger set, and I'll admit the product photos made the red eyes look like they might actually glow, so I was a little let down when it arrived and it's a fully static printed rug with no light or sound. Once I got over that and put it near the entry light at night, the shading in the print does a lot of the work on its own and the illusion still reads really well to visitors. I kept both rugs and I'm planning to grab a different design from the collection for the hallway, just wanted future buyers to know upfront it's the artwork doing the illusion, not any electronics.

Centerpiece energy

This is the piece the whole yard gets built around now. The finish reads expensive at night under color.

Talking through it is the best part

You can speak through it from the porch. My husband hid inside and answered trick-or-treaters all night. Nobody expects the thing to answer back.
